Last month I was able to stream movies just fine no problems now I can't even hook up one laptop and and watch a video on YouTube. Their excuse was that I was using too much data at once when I was able to run multiple devices and TVs a month ago. So I took this laptop to different places and it didn't crash or get kick off the inter net. My Atandt hot spot is able to do more than this company can. I cannot believe I used to recommend this company for years and now I'm writing this bad review to keep everyone from wasting there time. DO NOT USE THESE SERVICES THEY ARE NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE. SAVE YOUR TIME AND YOUR MONEY.
NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM DAY ONE! They have been out to our house uncountable times & have an excuse every time, but never solve the problem! Last fall, we moved into our freshly built home, along with our Directv acct, bought an AppleTV, Netflix, Hulu & the $106. plan, guaranteed to work with all the above! NEVER WORKED! Not one day did the speed even get close enough to run anything! We called Directv to find out why we couldn't get 'On-Demand' He said, "you have to at least have a regular signal of at least 5." The $106. Pkg was suppose to support 10. After waisting $106.00 for months.! WE CANCELED IT! So, we needed to fulfill the 2 yr contract, went down to the lowest $40. plan...and we're suppose to get 3. speed and usually it hold at 1.60. The service is down most of the time. Why is it we don't get credited & pro-rated for everyday WE DON'T GET SERVICE. BUT IF WE ARE ONE DAY LATE MAKING OUR PAYMENT WE GET BILLED AN EXTRA $10???? We want our money back for service not rendered!
Very fast when it works which is almost never.. Im so disapointed.. Im paying 100dls a month for a very poor service... that big all anthena they install in your house is useless since the service is very slow... there are better cheaper options around.. wish I could finish my contract
Absolutely horrible, they've given us multiple issues with the public IP addressing scheme, and now are advertising other customer's private information to us through LLDP.
Terrible company. Our roofed suffered hail damage and gtech did not come out for 6 weeks to put the tower back on. They are charging us for putting it back on plus no reimbursement for the 6 weeks without internet. Customer service is extremely rude and they don't care at all about their customers. We have been with gtech for years. No consideration for their 6 weeks scheduling issue. If you have another choice, do not choose gtech. Horrible
Like others STAY AWAY!!! I almost never get the speeds I pay for and most of the time 50-75% of the speed I pay for, customer service SUCKS! 15-30 or more minute hold time is common and the music on hold is WAY over driven and should be classified as cruel and inhumane treatment. I can only assume this is intentional to make you give up and go away. Also these folks have ZERO people skills
I have had Gtek for less than 2 months and have nothing but issues. They "bumped" my service to the elite package one step up and it still is having issues. They say they are monitoring the system but they are not we know we call on a daily biases wasted hours and days on service and people to come and say its fine. Customer service sucks and poor managerial staff doesn't make it any better!
Great customer service, and haven't had many issues with my service at all. I'm very glad that Gtek services areas like mine.
I have always had great experiences with Gtek. I appreciate their 24/7 tech support and I love that they are a local company! I would recommend Gtek to all of my friends.
I am so sad that I can't recommend this service. I want, so, so much, to like Gtek.
Besides ongoing "speed" issues, or even "reliability" issues, we frequently aren't able to access ordinary websites. Back when my mother paid for it, I phoned Gtek more than once to ask why I couldn't access certain major websites like Tumblr -- I had to access those sites through "proxy server" services, as if I straight-up lived in China -- and I was always always told I was "mistaken," that the ISP had no proxy problems.
The "proxy" problem has continued: A few years later -- earlier this spring, actually, and for an entire week -- I wasn't able to connect to either Microsoft Update or Adobe Reader. When I finally phoned Gtek, the person on the line insinuated that I understood neither how to use Windows nor the Internet. (I ended up updating my brand-new PC, drivers and all, through Tor, of all things, which has most famously been used by Edward Snowden. Great! Thanks!)
At that time, Gtek's staffer's insinuations struck me as some gall, since I am a Bay Area tech writer, transplanted to Texas, fairly well-versed in PCs and networks, and so I do not feel too far out of my depth. Furthermore, for a few days in December 2012, I was not able to send my overdue tech article to the New York Times: At that time I phoned Gtek and wailed. Of course I finally sucked it up and headed to the local Starbucks; meanwhile Gtek eventually "repaired" my home antenna.
On that: Gtek has repeatedly moved or "repaired" its antenna along our roof, maybe five times or more within half as many years, and this expensive process has never resulted in better service. (We are currently paying for Platinum, but we have never even once enjoyed commensurate speeds.)
As a tech writer with a programmer-husband -- both of us "telecommutes" -- I can tell you our Internet service very frequently "bottoms out," especially when we are using it to (ostensibly) communicate with our colleagues. Our lack of stable Internet in the home is, for us, an ongoing professional embarrassment.
I'm sure that Gtek assumes the "average customer" doesn't "need" Internet, or that we won't "notice" when Gtek's service perpetually goes missing. When we do notice, the young men answering Gtek's phones are apparently trained to tell irate 30-something women that their new PCs with clean hard drives are virus-riddled and may require reinstallation.
But the very worst of it is, my husband recently checked the DNS and confirmed that Gtek is simply Time Warner Cable, transmitted via radio antenna. I must assume we've had all the same connection problems other area folks have enjoyed -- just more slowly, and possibly with more intellectual emasculation on the phone.
After being hateful lifelong city-dwelling Comcast subscribers -- he, in San Francisco, I, in Chicago -- we are reluctantly switching to Time Warner. He and I both are extremely suspicious of big-name Internet providers. But Gtek is supposed to give us 15 Mbps download -- we average 9, and at the time of this writing, it's actually 1.8 -- while Time Warner, for half the price, offers 50 Mbps. We have now chosen to go ahead and "future-proof" our home and install cable, which -- bless my parents for trying to give me and my career usable Internet -- this house has never had.
I owe Gtek an additional star because, after both my parents died and I phoned to change the account to my name, the woman on the line apologized because she was friends with my mother.
We really, really wanted to be fans of Gtek and keep their service, but we literally can't think of a single reason.
