Arthritis
The trend for hip replacement surgery is on the rise. The most commonreason for this surgery is arthritis including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and traumatic arthritis. Childhood hip diseases can cause problems with the surface of the hip structure later in life even whenthe condition was successfully treated earlier.
Emergency Care
Fractures can occur in all phases of life. Whether you are six years old and you fall off the monkey bars at the playground or you are eighty-six years old and slip and fall at home, fractures are never welcome and always a little frightening. When you break a bone, often you’re treated at the emergency room. Even if your injury isn’t life threatening, you will still need an appointment to be evaluated and treated. Simple fractures may only require an orthopedic cast or a brace and routine follow-up care. More serious orthopedic injuries often require both immediate care and follow-up surgeries. Treatment may involve the placement of internal plates, screws and rods to help keep a patient’s bones aligned in the correct position while the body heals. All our providers are highly skilled at both simple and complex fracture care and will get you on the road to recovery.

MRI
Through an incision the width of a straw tip, the surgeon is able to insert a scope, which allows him inspect your joint and locate the source of your pain. The scope can also help identify tears or other damage that may have been missed by an X-ray or MRI. Then the surgeon will make one or more small incisions to accommodate the instruments used to repair the knee. These instruments can shave, trim, cut, stitch, or smooth the damaged areas.

Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a procedure for diagnosing and treating joint problems. A surgeon inserts a narrow tube attached to a fiber-optic video camera through a small incision — about the size of a buttonhole. The view inside your joint is transmitted to a high-definition video monitor. Arthroscopy allows the surgeon to see inside your joint without making a large incision.

Orthopedic Surgery
Dr. Boisvert grew up in Shrewsbury, MA, attended Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, and graduated cum laude from Wellesley College in 1998. She went on to complete medical school at UMass Chan Medical School in 2003, and her residency in Orthopedic Surgery at UMass Memorial Medical Center in 2009. The final step in training was the completion of the Thomas Jefferson University Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at the Rothman Orthopedic Institute in Philadelphia, PA in 2010. This final year included the opportunity to not only specialize in arthroscopic surgery, but also to work with the medical team for several of the surrounding high schools, NCAA Division 1 universities, and professional sports teams. Dr. Boisvert joined Worcester County Orthopedics in 2024 and is thrilled to bring her expertise back home.
Arthroscopy
Injury, overuse, and age-related wear and tear are responsible for most shoulder problems. Shoulder arthroscopy may relieve painful symptoms of many problems that damage the rotator cuff tendons, labrum, articular cartilage, and other soft tissues surrounding the joint.
Hip Replacement
I would like to tell you about my experience with my hip replacement. First, I want to explain what shape I was in prior to making my decision. I was 55 years old with four children ages 5 to 14. I was very active snow skiing, hiking, and water skiing. I am in sales and I drive 100 to 200 miles a day. I had lower back issues for many years with trips to the chiropractor, ice, and Advil. I had got to a point that, for a lack of a better description, my right side froze. I had constant pain, could not sleep, and had to roll myself out of the car at the end of the day. Being exhausted every night was not something I was used to or could get away with. I finally listened to my wife and went to see my primary doctor. After an x-ray the doctor asked if I had ever done anything to my hips and suggested I get an orthopedic consultation. A good family friend, Dr. Kelton Burbank, saw me and, without a beat, he told me I needed not one, but two new hips. It was genetic and basically bone on bone.
Knee Replacement
Dr. Philip Lahey IV performs partial knee replacements, also known as a unicompartmental knee replacement. This procedure will resurface only the damaged portion of the knee, preserving the normal, undamaged cartilage.

Emeritus partner Dr. Phil Lahey Jr., joined his father’s orthopedic practice in 1979—and practiced sports medicine in Worcester until 2021. Dr. Lahey followed in his father’s footsteps to Holy Cross first as an undergraduate and later caring for Holy Cross athletes. Dr. Lahey Jr. was the official Crusaders’ team physician for over 40 years.
