Plantar fasciitis is more prone in people with lowered arches and tight calf muscles. It can be a “forever” problem if these two issues are not treated with orthotics and regular stretching. Diagnosis: Podiatrists are trained to assess the lower limb. They use a variety of tools, including X-rays, ultrasound, MRI scans, and blood tests, to diagnose issues accurately.

Posterior heel pain can be caused by Achille tendonitis and tears, bursitis, Haglund’s deformity, calcification in the Achilles tendon, or neuralgia of the sural nerve. Treatment is based on the diagnosis as determined from information obtained from a physical exam, the description of the patient’s symptoms, x-ray results, and MRI imaging. Podiatrists will often recommend that patients with posterior heel pain try conservative treatments, such as orthotics, stretching, braces, and other methods before they recommend surgery.

Bunions
Treatment: They provide a wide array of treatments which may include prescribing medications, fitting orthotics, recommending physical therapy, and performing surgeries for issues such as bunions, hammertoes, or fractures.
Gangrene
The condition of restricted blood flow is referred to as “vascular disease” of the feet. Vascular disease is a serious condition that can cause non-healing wounds, gangrene, and foot pain. It is most common in people who have cardiovascular problems and those with diabetes.
Ingrown Toenails
To prevent ingrown toenails, be sure to maintain good nail hygiene and trim nails straight across, not at a curve. Wear shoes that fit properly and check your feet often, especially if you have a medical condition such as diabetes.

Dermatology
Podiatrists are highly trained professionals who specialize in the care of the foot and ankle. Their training includes extensive education in human anatomy, specifically the lower limbs, as well as specialized knowledge in areas such as biomechanics, dermatology, and surgery. After obtaining an undergraduate degree, a podiatrist must complete four years of podiatric medical school followed by a residency program, which provides comprehensive medical and surgical experience.
Calluses
Calluses are thick patches of skin that can grow on your feet. They form naturally from dead layers of skin that are subjected to friction and pressure and typically form on the weight-bearing areas of your feet, such as the big toe, heel, ball, or side of your foot. Some amount of callouses are normal, but they typically grow worse over time if not treated. You can also prevent calluses from forming, or returning by wearing proper shoes and applying a cream to the feet daily.
Fungus
Paronychia is an infection that develops underneath your nail or due to an ingrown toenail. Typically, paronychia starts with pain, redness, and swelling around the nail. Paronychia can be caused by bacteria or a fungus. Paronychia occurs when the skin around the nail or the cuticle is damaged allowing certain germs or fungi to grow.

The best shoes for hammertoes and bunions have a wide and high toe box, and medium height arch in the sole of the shoe. For bunions, it is essential to have properly fitting shoes with soft upper material so the shoe doesn’t rub against the bunion causing irritation and pain.

It is always best to trim the toenail straight across. This prevents an ingrown nail from developing. Those who have mycotic nails, or toenail fungus, may need to also frequently trim, or debride, the top of the affected toenails, as they frequently become thickened.
Hammertoes
You should also look for shoes with arch support to provide metatarsal stability. For hammertoes, you will also want to look for shoes with stretch material across the top of the foot to reduce friction on the bend of the toes.

Ingrown Toenails
The first sign that an ingrown nail is present is pain in the corner of the nail. Swollen, red skin on the painful side of the toe can also indicate an ingrown toenail. Ingrown toenails are caused by tight shoes that crowd the toe area, cutting toenails too short or curved, injury, nail infections, and certain medical conditions.

Plantar Fasciitis
Arch pain is most commonly caused by posterior tibial tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, or fatigued plantar foot muscles. The pain can sometimes be relieved temporarily through stretching, hydration, rest, and the use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory medications, like Aleve, Advil, or Tylenol. Persistent pain may be indicative of shoes with poor support or a condition partially caused by genetics. If the pain is recurring and interferes with your life, see a podiatrist for a full diagnosis.
