If you plan to breast-feed in the future, you should discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Brenda is a true South Carolinian. She was born and raised in Columbia and now lives in Elgin with her husband, Andrew and daughter, Riley. She graduated from Richland Northeast in 2006 and immediately began working for a neurology group while she went to USC full-time where she received a degree in Elementary Education. Brenda decided that she enjoyed the medical field much more than teaching so after graduating from USC in 2011, she went from working part-time to full-time for the neurology group. In 2013 Brenda left neurology and came to work for Dr. Carlin. For the first eight years, Brenda did insurance, billing and checkout for Dr. Carlin and in December 2021, she moved in to the role of assisting Dr. Carlin. Dr. Carlin spent his childhood years in Columbia. He graduated with honors, a Cum Laude degree in Chemistry, from Clemson University. He spent the next four years at The Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston. His General Surgery residency took him to Birmingham, Alabama for five long years, including a year as Chief Resident.

Eyelid Surgery
Aesthetic eyelid surgery has the effect of making you look more rested, refreshed and alert. Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait at least several weeks to get an accurate picture of the results of your eyelid surgery. Incisions will fade over a number of months usually becoming barely visible. The results of aesthetic eyelid surgery are usually long-lasting, but they may be affected by heredity and lifestyle factors. Removal of fat from your eyelids, which is usually the cause of puffiness and bags, is permanent, and these conditions generally will not recur.
Liposuction
Liposuction, sometimes referred to as “lipo” by patients, slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion. Liposuction surgery can be used to remove fat deposits in thighs, hips and buttocks, abdomen and waist, upper arms, back, inner knee, chest area, cheeks, chin and neck, calves and ankles. While some describe the procedure as “liposculpture” because the process of fat reduction with liposuction creates slimmer and more ideal shapes and contours, liposuction surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with an open procedure to contour the overlying skin.
Breast Augmentation
Dr. Carlin made me feel at ease in the office and on surgery day! I had breast augmentation at age 62 and couldn’t be more pleased. I went to him asking for a ‘lift’ and was advised that a small implant should do the trick and it did. That was 4 years ago and I am still pleased with the results as nothing has changed!
Breast Reduction

Body Lift
The lower body lift surgical procedure tightens loose, sagging skin in the buttocks, posterior thighs, hips, outer thighs, and anterior thighs. It utilizes incisions which pass from the back around the hips to the front of the thighs. The loose skin, as well as underlying fat tissue, is removed from below the incision to allow suspension of the remaining tissues to stretch and smooth the lower body, especially the buttocks and thighs.
Breast Surgery
Even with proper planning and execution of breast implant surgery, changes can and do occur that lead to the consideration of undergoing breast implant revision surgery. These changes can be implant-related, or from natural changes in the breast tissue, such as after childbirth and breast-feeding. The more common reasons for seeking revision breast surgery are implant deflation, a desire to change implant (size or type), capsular contracture, implant malposition, double-bubble deformity, and combination issues.
Body Contouring
In general, a good candidate for liposuction is an adult within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone; a health individual who does not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing; is a non-smoker; and has a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for body contouring.
Laser Resurfacing
Aesthetic eyelid surgery can usually correct these problems, though other treatments may also need to be considered. Some examples follow. If the upper eyelid condition is accompanied by sagging of the eyebrows, then a forehead lift may be recommended. Smoothing of crow’s feet may be accomplished with Botox®, chemical peeling or laser resurfacing procedures. Circles beneath the eyes caused by dark pigmentation may be treated with fillers such as Hyaluronic Acid or fat as well as bleaching solution or chemical peel. Your plastic surgeon can provide further information if you have an interest in any of these additional procedures.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is a medical term that originates from the Greek words for “women-like breasts.” This condition is far more common than many realize. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of the male population. It may affect only one breast or both. Although certain drugs such as anabolic steroids, medications containing estrogen, alcohol, marijuana, etc., and medical conditions including cancer, impaired liver function, to name a few, may cause or contribute to enlarged male breasts, it is widely accepted that a large percentage of cases derive from unknown sources.
Cosmetic Surgery
Dr. Carlin is amazing. He did my cosmetic surgery several years ago and I still look wonderful. I am having another (different) procedure this week. I also go to him for fillers and Botox.
Forehead Lift
A forehead lift is often performed to treat conditions associated with aging. It may be done in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures to achieve a more harmonious facial appearance. A forehead lift is also appropriate for treatment of certain inherited traits. Younger adults who have a low brow or who already have deep frown lines due to stress or over activity of muscles may benefit from the Forehead Lift procedure.

Skin Cancer
I came to Dr. Carlin following a biopsy that revealed my skin cancer. Worse still, the melanoma was on my face, something that started off as a cute birthmark on my cheek, has become fixed to become “a big ugly scar” according to my dermatologist. I sought the care of Dr. Carlin to remove the melanoma and reduce the scarring…. He did a lot more than that! He neatly tucked the scar behind my jaw line. It’s been over 2 years, and what was a 8” incision line, is now a paper thin, nearly invisible line.
