Kristina Rogers joined Gastroenterology Specialists in 2019. She is a Family Nurse Practitioner certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, and is a member of the Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Gastroenterology. She is passionate about gastroenterology and has special interests in managing inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease and other GI disorders.

Gastroenterology
Established in 1986, Gastroenterology Specialists, Inc. is an independent specialty practice offering a full array of gastrointestinal treatments including colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, capsule endoscopies, infusions, medications, and dietary management.
Colon Cancer
After completing the necessary procedure preparations, you will be placed on your left side on the examining table. An IV will be started and intravenous sedation will be given. A flexible lighted tube (colonoscope) will be inserted into the rectum to conduct the examination. A small piece of tissue may be removed for examination under the microscope (biopsy). Growths (polyps) found in the intestinal tract may be removed. Systematic removal of polyps can reduce the risk of developing colon cancer by 90%.

Since 2005, GSI has tracked endoscopy quality measures like quality of preparation, completeness of the procedure, polyp detection rates, and patient comfort. Tracking this data reveals how well our providers take care of our patients. Even though we consistently meet or exceed national benchmark rates, we continually analyze our quality measure rates and strive for better outcomes.

Ultrasound
Dr. Fillmore completed extensive training in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). He currently performs endoscopic ultrasounds in hospital settings. He is a published author with Practical Gastroenterology and Obesity Surgery.

Ulcer
After completing the necessary procedure preparations, you will be placed on your left side on the examining table. An IV will be started and intravenous sedation will be given. A lighted, flexible endoscope will be inserted into your throat to conduct the examination. A plastic mouth guard is usually used to protect the endoscope and your teeth. A tiny camera at the tip of the endoscope will transmit images to a monitor for your physician to view. If the physician finds anything unusual during the exam, such as an ulcer or inflamed tissue, a biopsy may be performed to remove a small piece of the affected tissue to be sent to a lab for testing.
Lesions
During a colonoscopy the physician visualizes the colon wall to evaluate for colon polyps which can be removed during the procedure to decrease the risk of colon cancer. If the colon is not adequately cleaned out it is difficult to visualize and the risk of missing colon polyps or other lesions is high.
