Endometriosis
The physicians of Northern Jersey Obstetrics & Gynecology provide comprehensive surgical care for a wide variety of conditions, such as uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, cervical incompetence, and ovarian cysts. Whenever possible, they use minimally invasive techniques, including robotics, which carry several significant advantages over traditional, open surgery for eligible patients. When your ob/gyn performs a minimally invasive procedure, the incisions are smaller, there is generally less pain, a shorter hospital stay and a briefer recovery period. The surgical technique selected is based on multiple factors, including your specific medical condition and overall health status. Please talk to us about your surgery and any expectations you may have.
Pelvic Pain
A hysterectomy is the removal of all or part of the uterus, and may or may not include the cervix (the opening of the uterus), the top of the vagina, and the ovaries. Hysterectomy may be indicated for women with fibroids that are causing significant pain and heavy bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding, cancer, endometriosis, or adenomyosis (thickening of the uterus). Usually, a hysterectomy for non-cancerous conditions is considered only after other treatments have failed.
Pregnancy
Obstetrics is the specialty that deals with the care of women through pregnancy and childbirth. Women's Health Care Group delivers care to healthy women, as well as patients with conditions that place them at higher risk, such as diabetes and hypertension, and those over the age of 35. Our team consists of a Certified Obstetrical Registered Nurse and a Certified Medical Assistant who are dedicated to obstetrics and experienced in managing and coordinating care with your physicians. We look forward to providing personalized care to you and your family to promote a healthy pregnancy and positive birth experience.
Labor and Delivery
VBAC refers to "vaginal birth after c-section." Patients who have had a prior cesarean delivery may be able to deliver their next baby vaginally. Benefits of a VBAC over c-section include less pain after delivery, shorter recovery, avoiding a surgical scar on your uterus, and a more active role in the process for you and your birthing partner. A VBAC is a safe choice for many women, but there are risks that you and your obstetrician/gynecologist will discuss to determine if it is right for you.

Cervical Cancer
A Pap test, or Pap smear, checks the cervix for abnormal cell changes. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus (womb), which opens into the vagina. Cell changes can develop on the cervix that, if not found and treated, can lead to cervical cancer. Cervical cancer can almost always be prevented, and having regular Pap tests is the key.

An endometrial biopsy is performed to determine the cause of abnormal menstrual periods (heavy, prolonged, or irregular bleeding), bleeding after menopause and other abnormal bleeding, to evaluate thickened uterine lining seen on an ultrasound, and to determine the presence of endometrial cancer.
Mammography

Hysterectomy
The procedure can be performed abdominally or vaginally, and via open abdominal surgery or minimally invasive technique, including robotically. The approach your ob/gyn takes will depend upon the reason for the hysterectomy, your overall medical status, and possibly, other factors, that you and your doctor will discuss to determine what's right for you.
Laparoscopy
There are different ways to remove fibroids: a hysteroscopy enters the uterus through the vagina; a laparoscopy enters through small incisions in the abdomen; a laparotomy enters the uterus from a larger incision in the abdomen. The approach your doctor takes will depend upon the nature of your fibroids and your overall medical condition.

Lesions
Vaginal birth, in which the baby descends through the birth canal and emerges through the vagina, is the method of delivery recommended for most women. However, women with certain conditions, such as herpes virus with active lesions, untreated HIV infection and complete placenta previa (when the baby's placenta covers all of the mother's cervix), as well as some women who have had a previous Cesarean-section, are often advised to avoid vaginal deliveries because of the associated health risks. In these cases, a C-section is a safe, lower-risk alternative.
