Teeth Cleaning
Children should begin attending bi-annual checkups by age 2 or 3. A child’s checkup is different from an adult’s in that we may not take X-rays or photos, and we will look for development problems. Children may not need a dental cleaning until age 3 or 4.
Fluoride Treatment
Your dentist may recommend dental sealants and fluoride supplements during a checkup – especially for children. These preventive measures can deter tooth decay.
Dental Sealants
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends sealants, especially for kids who’ve already had tooth decay. Sealants protect the pits and grooves of molars, greatly reducing the risk of cavities.

Root Canal Treatment
Originally went to Dr. Rouse for a 2nd opinion for a root canal and ended up getting my procedure done there. Dr. Rouse is great at making sure that you feel good before going through each step of a procedure. They were able to get me in quick and did an amazing job! It should be no surprise that I have switched to his office for all of my dental work!

Deep Cleaning
Gum disease is the main cause of tooth loss for adults in the US, and it has been linked to systemic conditions, such as heart disease, respiratory problems, and mental dysfunction. Eighty percent of American adults suffer from some form of this condition. If you show signs of gum disease, your hygienist will recommend a deep cleaning to remove plaque from below the gum line. Some patients benefit from special mouth rinses, antibiotic therapy, or habit changes to reduce gum disease. Regular maintenance visits are required to keep gums healthy and strong.

Tooth Extractions
In some situations, you can avoid tooth extraction by undergoing a root canal. An internally infected or inflamed tooth may be treatable. Inside every tooth, canals house the pulp (nerve) that sustains the tooth’s life. A deep cavity or crack can compromise the pulp and cause infection or inflammation. As infection and inflammation builds, the tooth begins to ache from internal pressure. At this point, your dentist will recommend extraction or a root canal.

Orthodontics
For conservative, effective treatment, your dentist can create a custom oral appliance to correct jaw alignment and relieve nagging symptoms. Other options are orthodontics and sometimes surgery. Your dentist will determine whether an oral appliance might relieve your pain if you suffer from TMJ symptoms.

Braces
Any braces-wearers should make sure to avoid whitening products, toothpaste included, to keep from ending up with discolored patches in the spots where the brackets were.

Teeth Whitening
Whitening toothpastes are great, but remember that they can’t eliminate deeper stains or change a tooth’s natural color. The abrasive ingredients in whitening toothpaste can polish the teeth and the peroxide in them can break down some surface-level stains. Using it twice daily can lead to visible results after several weeks, but always look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance when choosing one!
