The answer is absolutely yes! Bacteria can accumulate in the mouth and enter the bloodstream, reaching your pet’s internal organs. These bacteria can limit the lifespan of your pet. Also dental disease is painful. May times our older pets are less active not because they are aging but because they are in pain and have no way of telling us.

Pain management is another excellent application of our therapy laser. In the past, conditions such as osteoarthritis could only be treated with the use of medications such as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Ultrasound technology is another diagnostic tool Bayou Animal Clinic has to offer your pet, and the benefits are much greater than simply pregnancy detection. The ultrasound uses harmless sound waves without radiation to “look” inside your pet. Ultrasound will allow Dr. Garcia to diagnose pancreatitis, liver disease, kidney disease, cardiac function and locate possible obstructions if your pet has bitten off more than they can chew!

Radio surgery is one of the most innovative and new ways to perform surgery on your pet. Radio surgery is less invasive than even laser surgery. The benefits are many, including from less bleeding. Also, your pet will experience less pain with radio surgery as compared to traditional scalpel cuts. Finally, there is less infection associated with a radio surgery. Please ask us if radio surgery is right for your pet.
Spaying and Neutering
Besides helping to reduce the overpopulation of animals, spaying and neutering conveys direct health benefits to your pet. Spayed and neutered pets are less likely to roam and fight. In females, early-age spaying drastically reduces the incidence of mammary (breast) cancer later in life, and in males, prostate and anal problems, hernias and testicular problems can be prevented. Older females that have not been spayed are at risk for uterine infections, which often go unrecognized by the owner, and may become life-threatening.

Bayou Animal Clinic is pleased to offer your pet in clinic diagnostic blood work capabilities. Our hospital's latest analyzers allow us to determine if your pet has an issue with its organs or blood in less than ten minutes! Often your pets come in as you have noticed that they simply aren't feeling their usual playful selves. With a small amount of blood drawn from your pet by a veterinarian or veterinary technician, we place the blood in our state-of-the art analyzers and have results while you wait! This means you may not have to come back with your pet the next day for additional procedures. Our diagnostics can help us determine if you pet has an organ issue or an underlying problem with the blood with a complete blood count.
X-Ray
Bayou Animal Clinic has the benefit of capturing images of your pets much faster to reduce the possible exposure of radiation to both your beloved pet and veterinarian! Additionally, overexposed images would have to be retaken with older methodologies. Digital radiography gives Bayou Animal Clinic the ability to “fix” these images with contrast rather than retakes. Also, our chemicals used to process our old images are no longer needed. Finally, our clinic has the ability to email your pet’s image to another specialist if needed, saving valuable time for your pet.
Dental Radiology
Our advanced digital dental radiography techniques allow our clinic to diagnose dental disease in your pet much sooner than was previously possible.
