Veterinary Ophthalmology
Dr. Samantha Gans is originally from the East Coast. Dr. Gans first gained an interest in veterinary medicine after spending a week visiting a very special black lab, Squirrel-Fish, who was being treated at the local emergency vet clinic. She left the coast to complete her Bachelors in Animal Science at KSU. From there she moved with her husband and son, Colton, to Arizona and obtained her DVM from Midwestern University. Having great appreciation for the low humidity here, they decided to stay. Dr. Gans is interested in emergency medicine, ophthalmology, and pain management. She has a special place in her heart for furry geriatric companions and keeping the human-animal bond strong through all their years. In her free time she enjoys mountain biking, camping, and swimming with her family. She has a dog named Trixie and a cat named Nash.

Heart Disease Treatment
I will be forever grateful for Scottsdale Veterinary Clinic, as they have saved my dog's life. Long story short, my dog suffered from pulmonary edema in the middle of the night. I brought her in, they had to hospitalize her and she's now doing well on her new medication. I called many times throughout the night because I was so worried, and they were so helpful and provided updates. I will say that I did have to go back twice- she was labored breathing but then stopped when I brought her in at 1:45 am, of course.:) They took her vitals and everything looked ok, so they recommended that I monitor at home. Once we got home, it got worse, so we went back, and they took x-rays right away. Trust your gut when it comes to your pets- we know them best!:) In addition to this, about a year and a half ago, my sweet dog had a seizure. We rushed her in, they took her right away and stabilized her. They gave her heart medication that's been working well. As we know with the significant increase in population in the Scottsdale area, it's really challenging when a pet needs immediate attention, but they have been there to help every time. Yes, it's expensive for emergency care, (it's been about $800-$1,000 per episode:/) but when your loved pet needs serious medical attention and it's an emergency, it's worth every cent. I'm so glad we have this clinic in Scottsdale- thank you for saving my sweet Penny!
Kidney Disease Treatment
Acupuncture therapy is safe and effective for many medical conditions. It has been used to treat arthritis, kidney disease, anal gland disease, and many other conditions.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
We recommend having your pet’s teeth cleaned before they require extractions. Performing dental cleanings while they have low grades of tartar and periodontal disease has many benefits. Benefits include: Lower cost to you, decreased stress to your pet and more options for the type of dental performed. An animal that has a Grade I periodontal disease has the option of undergoing a conscious sedation dental or a traditional dental. However, an animal with Grade III periodontal disease only has the option of a traditional dental with anesthesia.
Saying goodbye to our furry loved ones is one of the hardest parts of being a pet parent, and we will do everything we can to help you through this process. Relieving our dog, cat, or exotic pet from pain and suffering is the most common reason that most owners elect to euthanize a beloved friend. Pain and suffering could be related to chronic, incurable diseases like cancer, renal disease and heart failure. It is normal for owners to elect to make the choice that they feel is kindest for their terminally ill pets. Euthanasia is performed by a veterinarian, and done for reasons such as humane relief of suffering. The decision to put your pet down is typically made when the animal is starting to suffer as a result of the condition and when drugs can no longer bring enough pain relief, or due to owner’s financial limitations to provide care for life threatening illnesses that may cause suffering. Excessive vomiting, diarrhea, intestinal pain, severe arthritis, tumors or cancer can all lead to these painful symptoms and complete body failure. In these cases, it is much kinder to put the pet to sleep and end their pain. During the euthanasia process, your pet would be injected with a chemical that when it enters the blood stream it stops the function of both the heart and the brain, which causes instant loss of consciousness and pain sensations. This is where the term “put to sleep” comes from as the animal falls into a deep sleep and the heart stops beating, allowing the pet to pass without experiencing pain. We offer communal cremation where your pet’s remains would be spread on a farm up north, or we also have an individual cremation option for you to have your pet’s ashes returned to you in a cedar wood urn.
