We had a great time at this Hibachi Grill. We had reservations for 6:30 but couldn't make them. We called and they were gracious to move us up to 7:15. We had Tommy as our grill master and he was such a great entertainer. He kept both tweens as well as adults laughing and entertained. The food was priced as I would have expected with the entertainment factor. The steak was tender, fried rice delicious, and vegetables very good. The cucumber martini was yummy as well with a spiced rim. Try a slow-mo pic during the fire display at the beginning. Greatness.
I went to Sumo about a week ago and I have to say, I was highly impressed. I went with my girlfriend and her brother and we're all relatively young (14, 20, and 22). I'm accustomed to lesser service because of this, but at Sumo this was not the case. Our server was very polite and attentive and our chef, Matt, was PHENOMENAL. He was very skilled and funny. I've been to plenty of Japanese steakhouses and seen the same performances over and over and Matt gave a fresh take on old tricks while making genuine conversation with us. I can't tell you how refreshing it was to have a chef that can ACTUALLY talk to you. The food was fantastic, we ordered a sushi roll that was made perfectly and the food from the grill, including the fried rice, was some of the best I've had. Five stars without a doubt.
We had dinner at sumo steakhouse last night and had a great time the food was great and our cook was very entertaining we plan to go back for my sons birthday.
I enjoyed my experience upon arrival and all the way through dinner. I loved the filet and scallops and the sushi was top notch. Great show and service.
We tend to frequently eat at Hibachi grills for special occasions. (Mainly when in Houston since we had not been impressed with the ones we have eaten at in SA).
So we know who has the best soup, salad, rice etc).
We actually gave Sumo another chance after we starving and disgruntled, gave up waiting for a table on a busy Sat night ( now we know to make a reservation). (We weren't impressed when it was Benni Hana's - so we never choose to come to Sumo).
We came on Easter Sunday 2016 and we were pleasantly surprised! We were most impressed with the quality of the regular Hibachi steak and shrimp. The hot Tazo green tea was wonderful too. Actually the steak's flavor and tenderness is the best we've had at a Hibachi restaurant. Everything else was good too although the best soup and salad honor remains in Houston. We will definitely come back for special occasions in the near future.
Benihana's recently left San Antonio, but Sumo San Antonio Steakhouse and Sushi Bar has stepped up in a big way. The same management and staff are providing awesome shows and fresh food made to order. The menu is a little reminiscent of the previous establishment (for previous patrons), but some new twists have been added. The wine and sake list is a definite upgrade but still affordable......unless you really want some of the nice stuff (i.e. Darioush, Cakebread). The general manager is very accommodating and will help with any special requests for events, etc. Check this place out...you wont regret it!
What a fantastic night! We had "Tommy" aka Manuel as our chef and he was incredible!!!! The food was delicious, the drinks strong and the "show" didn't stop! What a great place for a special occasion.
The food here was absolutely delicious! We came here on a Wednesday night and the show commenced. I ordered the scallops hibachi dish. Our chef was very nice and friendly. He even offered us to try certain sauces with certain foods. Let us try this spicy red sauce and then mixed it in with some of our rice. I loved that he was giving us other options other than what was already at our table. Speaking of which, that yum yum sauce was out of this world delicious. I seriously drowned most of my food in it, that and the spicy sauce he let us try. My food was all cooked perfectly and seasoned well, even without all the sauce.
