Dental Examination

Teeth Cleaning
It is vitalÂ that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups, even during your orthodontic treatment. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure youÂ receiveÂ the best possible care.
Fluoride Treatment

Veneers
If you have veneers or crowns you should talk with your doctor and he or she will evaluate your individual needs to determine if Invisalign® is right for you. Because Invisalign® clear aligners are designed to move each tooth individually and bridgework connects two or more teeth, Invisalign® may not be effective for individuals with bridgework.
Crowns
Teeth with crowns or root canals donâ€™t preclude you from wearing braces. There are modern materials available that can adhere orthodontic brackets to crowns just as they would natural teeth. Your orthodontist will be able to evaluate your situation and recommend treatment options.
Bridges

Root Canal Treatment

Dentures
Keep your retainer clean by brushing it gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste. You may also soak it in a denture cleaner as instructed by your orthodontist. Do not put your retainer in boiling water or in the dishwasher.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Most children lose all their baby teeth by age 13, and by the end of their teen years, the jaw bones will harden and stop growing. Orthodontic procedures for adults often take more time and can involve tooth extraction or oral surgery. Receiving early orthodontic treatment as a child can help prevent the need for orthodontics as an adult, leaving little to no chance of extraction or surgery in the future.
Jaw Surgery
The main difference in treating adults and children is that childrenâ€™s jawbones are still developing, and they are experiencing rapid tooth movement. Adultsâ€™ jawbones have stopped growing, which may require orthognathic surgery to realign the jawbones, where necessary.
