Located in Phoenix, the Phoenix Fire Department is one of the busiest fire departments in the United States. It operates more than 50 fire stations and various battalions, as well as over 55 engine, nearly 15 ladder and approximately 30 rescue companies. The fire department employs more than 1,900 staff members that include sworn personnel and civilians. The Phoenix Fire Department operates an enhanced 911 system and dispatch unit, which is the largest in the world. The unit assists in timely dispatching of police or fire units to the emergency scenes. It provides various after-fire safety tips and emergency transportation services, as well as supports several outreach programs. The fire department also supports a community assistance program unit is a group of trained adults who provide 24-hour on-scene crisis intervention and victims assistance services to the citizens of the Greater Phoenix area.
