Just a comment or two about my recent experience at NWH. On March 28, 2019, I had a total shoulder replacement performed by Dr. Daniel Quinn of Newton Wellesley Orthopedics Associates. In summary, it was the best medical experience that I ever experienced. From pre-op testing to pre and post-surgery care, the hospital staff was superb and took excellent care of me. All were very professional, caring and talented. The surgical team led by Dr. Quinn was equally superb and did an excellent job restoring my shoulder. He is truly a great surgeon and did a wonderful job. It has been five months since the surgery and I am 90% recovered and enjoying my very active lifestyle, pain-free! All involved made this very tough and painful surgery tolerable and, based on the outcome, a very positive experience. Thank you!!

For patients that qualify, in addition to his surgery at Newton Wellesley Hospital, Dr Quinn is now performing outpatient surgery, both total joint replacement and Sports medicine, at Lighthouse Surgical Suites. It is a brand new ambulatory surgery center in Hollis New Hampshire. It offers the most advanced technology available in orthopedics. This includes robotic surgery using the Zimmer Biomet ROSA for his total knee replacement patients.
Arthroscopy
Treatment begins by decreasing the amount of lifting and heavy activity on the elbow. Regular application of warm packs to the elbow and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medications are useful. Cortisone injections may be considered if the pain is debilitating despite the above treatments. Surgery may be considered if non-surgical treatment fails to offer relief. Elbow arthroscopy is minimally invasive, very effective and is the treatment of choice unless the patient has severe arthritis. Total elbow replacement (arthroplasty) may be considered in severe cases. This is a procedure in which the ends of the humerus and ulna are removed, then replaced by prosthetic hinge components to restore pain free motion. Total elbow arthroplasty is not nearly as durable as total hip or knee arthroplasty and should only be offered under very careful consideration and discussion with a surgeon who is experienced in all manner of treatment of elbow arthritis.

Dr. Hanmer recently did my total right hip replacement at NWH. I was totally satisfied in every way with my experience with Dr. Hanmer and his staff from initial evaluation to post surgery.

Dr. Hanmer is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in total hip and total knee replacement surgery performing over 300 procedures a year. He has an added specialization in hip arthroscopy and joint preservation procedures. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, a member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Bunion exercises can ease the pain caused by bunions, a painful toe joint deformity. You develop a bunion when pressure pushes the big toe toward the second toe. When the top of the toe moves, it forces the bone in the joint at the base of the toe to shift outward. As the bone shifts, it causes a lump on the side of your foot.
