Ophthalmologists

Glaucoma
It is estimated that three million Americans have glaucoma, but only about half of them know that they have glaucoma. Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness for people over 60 years old. But blindness from glaucoma can often be prevented with early treatment. When glaucoma develops, usually you don’t have any early symptoms and the disease progresses slowly. In this way, glaucoma can steal your sight very gradually. Fortunately, early detection and treatment (with glaucoma eyedrops, glaucoma surgery or both) can help preserve your vision.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Tan completed his internship at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego and received the Intern Award for outstanding patient care. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the esteemed Shiley Eye Institute at the University of California, San Diego in 2013. He received refractive surgery training at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, where he performed PRK and LASIK on Navy pilots and corpsmen.
Macular Degeneration
Dr. Angie Ng completed her undergraduate studies cum laude at UC San Diego with a major in Human Biology and minor in Global Health. She then completed her Doctorate of Optometry degree at the University of California, Berkley School of Optometry. During her time there she was part of the BSK Honor Society, participated in VOSH, an organization that provided eye services to underserved populations in the Philippines, and had internships in community health clinics in the Alameda Health System and VA hospitals such as the San Francisco VA and Fresno VA. After completion of her optometry degree, Dr. Ng pursued a residency in ocular disease at the VA Central California health care system where she developed an interest in managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration.
Laser Eye Surgery
Photorefractive Keratotomy (PRK) was the first excimer laser refractive procedure developed and has been continuously practiced with excellent results since 1995. While it was extremely popular at the time of its development, it has been largely outpaced by LASIK as the refractive surgery of choice because of the rapid visual rehabilitation and increased comfort levels afforded by the LASIK procedure.
Cataracts
Presbyopia is a condition that affects everyone at some point after age 40, when the eye's lens becomes less flexible and makes near vision more difficult, especially in low light. Since presbyopia makes it difficult to see near objects clearly, even people without cataracts need reading glasses or an equivalent form of vision correction.

Dr. Tan graduated summa cum laude from Cornell University in New York. He received his Medical degree from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, graduating in its inaugural class in 2009. He spent a year doing research at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, where his work led to the discovery of faulty bone marrow-derived vasculogenic stem cells in the pathogenesis of retinal neovascularization in diabetic patients. Dr. Tan has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on his translational stem cell research in diabetic retinopathy.
