He graduated from Herreid High School in 1990 as salutatorian and went on to attend the University of Mary and later the Illinois College of Optometry, graduating in 1999. After briefly working in Chicago and then Minneapolis, he returned to the area in 2000 to work at Sterling Optical in Bismarck. He eventually opened up his own optometry clinic, Precision Eyez, in 2004 and was in solo private practice before joining the doctors at Vision Source Mandan in 2020. He enjoys primary family eye care and seeing patients of all ages. He also has an added interest in contact lenses, urgent care, and diabetic eye exams.

Glaucoma
Often called “the silent thief of sight,” glaucoma is an increase in the intraocular pressure of the eyes, which causes damage to the optic nerve with no signs or symptoms in the early stages of the disease. If left untreated, glaucoma can lead to a decrease in peripheral vision and eventually blindness.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a chronic, progressive disease that gradually destroys sharp central vision due to a deterioration of the macula, a tiny spot in the central portion of your retina comprised of millions of light-sensing cells. Because it is so commonly associated with aging, it is also known as age-related macular degeneration (AMD). There are two forms of AMD called “dry,” most common and with no known treatment, and “wet,” less common and treated with laser procedures. Genetic testing is now available to help identify those most likely to develop “wet” macular degeneration.
Laser Eye Surgery
In reality, most people have some degree of astigmatism, which is usually present at birth and is believed to be hereditary. In minor cases, treatment may not be required but is certainly beneficial. Moderate to severe astigmatism can be treated with corrective eyewear or LASIK surgery.
Cataracts
Studies indicate that a diet rich in lutein and zeaxanthin can result in a lower risk of chronic eye diseases, including AMD and cataracts. The best way to get these less well-known nutrients is by eating eggs and leafy greens.
Cataract Surgery
Due to the baby boomer population, cataract surgeries are on the rise! However, the great news about cataract surgery is that the procedure typically takes less than 10 minutes per eye and most patients experience satisfactory distance vision without glasses following the surgery.
