Oil Change
Regular Scheduled Oil Services are becoming more and more important in today’s modern engine vehicles. Gone are the days when using almost any weight of oil and being within a few thousand miles of the recommended oil service was acceptable or safe. At Import Auto we see many modern engine vehicles that are equipped with oil pressure controlled systems such as variable valve timing (Hondas Vtec, BMWs VANOS, or Audis AVS) and hydraulic lifters. Timing Chains are also starting to make a comeback and unlike in the Timing Belt System the timing chain tensioners use oil pressure to properly control the chain or chains. Dirty Oil, low oil level, improper oil viscosity, or oil not meeting manufacturer specifications can cause multiple engine control issues and in extreme cases ( such as failure of the timing chain tensioner ) complete engine failure.
Engine Tune-Up
Back when cars became popular years ago they needed a regular tune-up. Everything from ignition points and spark plugs to adjusting the engine timing were needed every 15-30,000 miles. Carburetors needed little adjustments for summer or winter. The cars we drove back then didn’t make it to 100,000 miles and if they did it was very irregular. Modern vehicles last longer now. Finding a car with 100,000 miles on it can sometimes mean it is just getting it broken in. All this is due to precision engine parts, Maintenance and the technology that keeps us on the road. Today, the “Tune-Up” has evolved to match the technology that is in your car or truck.

Subaru is also known for making a vehicle that lasts. They are able to achieve this longevity due to a strict Maintenance regime. This recommended maintenance includes multiple System Checks and Fluid Flushes as well as Spark Plug and Timing Belt Replacement. At Import Auto we couple these manufacture recommendations with condition checks and real world experience based on our Cache Valley climate. When done correctly and on time these Flushes, Replacements, and Inspections help to keep your New or Used Subaru on the road for miles and years to come.
Fuel Injection Service/Repair
The cars that are at the highest risk for carbon build-up problems are those that use DI, although not all cars that use this type of fuel injection system have experienced this issue. Audi, Mini Coopers, and some VW and BMW models are the cars where the factory recommends these services. Carbon issues are not limited to just European but other Brands as well, Mazda, Ford, Subaru and Nissan are just a few. For owners of these cars, the carbon build-up problem means they must invest in additional maintenance on a regular basis to have the carbon cleaned from their engine.
Over time the additives in the fluid will lose their effectiveness and it will be necessary to have the fluid replaced. By following a regular and consistent Transmission Services schedule we help to preserve the performance of the transmission and extend its service life in order to avoid unexpected and costly future repairs. This is because over time the Transmission fluid collects small metal shavings and contaminants which, in small amounts, is expected during normal operation. The heat generated in the Transmission will also degrade the fluid with time and use. When the fluid is not regularly serviced we begin to lubricate the Transmission with these metal shavings and contaminants which can and will shorten the service life of the Transmission.
At some point drivers encounter a problem with their power steering system on their vehicle, anything from noise to stiff steering or fluid leaks or hard turning when the vehicle is cold. Normal driving causes your power steering fluid to get damaged from heat, friction and electrochemical degradation.
Steering Fluid Service
Power Steering Flush-Power steering fluid provides hydraulic assist for the power steering system. Over time, O-rings, seals and other internal power steering components can deteriorate and contaminate the fluid. A flush will remove all of the old fluid and replace it with clean fluid.
Coolant Flush- A flush helps to remove deposits which get pushed out with the old antifreeze. This is important since these build ups can cause overheating or even damage your radiator.
Air Filter Replacement

“Computer Diagnosis” or Testing and Inspecting of an Issue, can be intangible sometimes and misunderstood. At Import Auto in Cache Valley it is our goal to make this sometimes scary and intimidating part of owning a vehicle a positive experience. Let us be Honest, NO one wants a Check Engine Light. And in reality we don’t want you to have one either. The Vehicles that we drive have many computers and networks that all have to be working correctly to have a working safe reliable vehicle. It’s no surprise that computers control and monitor just about every aspect of our lives. Guess what your Honda, Volkswagen, and Ford does as well. What we drive today is a complex machine; you not only have the mechanical motions of tires and other such moving pieces but you have the unpredictable and complex electrical systems that control everything involved. Did you know all cars and trucks from BMW to Volkswagen have a computer network inside controlling everything? This network can be responsible for Check Engine Light activation to even something as simple as your Window Function on your Audi. What does it take to diagnose a problem or issue? Any more you cannot just get by with a set of wrenches and sockets. Let us put this into perspective there are four areas a mechanic needs to excel in to be effective with cars today.

Auto Maintenance
We educate our customers on the value of properly maintaining their vehicles and how properly maintaining a vehicle actually lowers overall operating costs. Experience maintaining our customer’s vehicles has shown this to be true and now recently released statistics by the US Department of Transportation confirm it. According to their study it costs roughly half as much to operate and properly maintain your vehicle, over a five-year period, as it does to only repair your vehicle when it breaks! Obviously vehicle preventative maintenance doesn’t cost -– it saves.
