DUI/DWI
Driver intoxication. Unfortunately, drunk driving causes many accidents on our roadways. Drunk driving often results in very serious crashes and injuries and Nevada law allows punitive damages when someone causes injuries while driving drunk.

Traffic Violations
Rear-end collisions. Because of their heavy weight, large trucks require much more room to stop than passenger vehicles. For this reason, truck drivers must maintain safe following distances from the vehicles in front of them at all times. A trucker can rear-end a car if they’re speeding, tailgating, or driving distracted. Other drivers may also cause these crashes by cutting off trucks and slamming on their brakes.
Sex Crimes

Misdemeanors
Yes. There are laws in place in Nevada to prevent nursing home abuse and neglect. There are also federal rules for the proper treatment and protection of senior citizens. Nevada Revised Statutes Section 200.5099 criminalizes exploiting, neglecting, isolating, abandoning or abusing anyone who is 60 years or older. Doing so is a class C felony or a gross misdemeanor for a first offense. If the victim suffers substantial physical or mental harm, a first-time conviction is a class B felony and can carry up to 20 years in prison. All of these acts are crimes that can make the abuser accountable for related injuries.

Unfortunately, a life cut short isn’t always grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit. For a successful claim, the death must have stemmed from someone else’s negligence, or intent to harm, to qualify as a wrongful death. And, as we talked about earlier, you can pursue a civil wrongful death claim at the same time as an ongoing criminal case for homicide. The criminal charge will punish the offender, while the civil suit will compensate surviving family members after with a wrongful death settlement.
