Vaccination
Under our healthcare program, we offer physical examinations, vaccinations, senior wellness checkups, and even quick and immediate medical care for sick and injured patients.
Nutritional Counseling
We have a variety of dietary programs that provide your pets with the proper nutrition. They range from weight control to tartar control diets. If your pet has a medical condition such as an injury, a kidney ailment or a joint infirmity, we can prescribe the most appropriate diet to suit your pet’s needs.
Comprehensive Examination
It is important to be mindful of your pet’s advancing age because significant health changes can take place very quickly, sometimes in as little as 3 – 6 months. We recommend bi-annual Senior Checks for our patients so that we can help you stay ahead of any potential health issues. During the appointment, our veterinarians will perform a comprehensive physical exam, noting any changes to eyes, ears, mouth, and body condition. They will also run a comprehensive blood panel to test for any abnormalities in the kidney, liver, and pancreatic enzyme levels, as well as a Complete Blood Count to monitor white blood cell, red blood cell, & platelet counts.
Preventative Care is an important program we offer at Prien Lake Animal Hospital. We furnish several different heartworm and flea prevention plans that are suitable for all types of pets living in a variety of habitats.
Dogs and cats thrive when they are fed a healthy, balanced diet. Currently, however, pet obesity is a huge problem in the United States. When pets are overweight, it creates a tendency towards diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, and other chronic health conditions. Using our dietary planning services at Prien Lake Animal Hospital will help simplify just what your pet should be eating and how much.

Kidney Disease Treatment
It takes approximately 24 hrs for plaque to harden into tartar on your pet’s teeth. As tartar builds up, it pushes the gum tissue back and away from the teeth, allowing bacteria access to the bloodstream. Studies have shown that these bacteria can be responsible for causing heart and kidney disease in many pets.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
It is estimated that 80% of pets over the age of 5 years have periodontal disease which includes tartar build-up on the teeth, swollen or receding gum tissue and loss of bone support.
Serving pets in Lake Charles and the surrounding communities, Prien Lake Animal Hospital offers convenient in-house diagnostic laboratory testing and x-rays to determine your pet’s overall health. Our in-house diagnostic capabilities enable us to provide quick and accurate results for a variety of tests including complete blood counts, full chemistry panels, liver and kidney function, as well as thyroid and adrenal gland testing. We also provide ten minute laboratory results for heartworm and feline leukemia testing. The results from diagnostic testing enables our doctors to determine if there is an underlying problem with your pet that may not be seen through a visual or physical examination.
