Medical Weight Loss
Weight Management: Daily walking aids in weight management by burning calories. Combined with a balanced diet, it can help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Unlike more intense forms of exercise, walking is gentle on the joints, making it accessible for people of all ages and fitness levels.
While medication is easy, it only helps your pain subside for a short amount of time. Over time, certain drugs can cause some unfavorable side effects, and in some cases, they can be habit-forming. With NSAIDs, you run the risk of blood clots, heart attack, or stroke. With corticosteroids, you run the risk of cataracts, high blood sugar levels, and bone loss. Luckily, there is a much safer and healthier alternative to treating persistent back pain: physical therapy. At your initial consultation, your physical therapist will ask you several questions regarding your medical history, lifestyle, and painful area(s). This information will assist your physical therapist in creating the best treatment plan for you and your specific needs, so you can be provided with long-term results.
Physical therapists have years of university level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology (study of joint movement), neurology, and many of the other medical sciences. Our physical therapists have graduated from accredited physical therapy programs and are state licensed. Depending on the university, the physical therapy program is either a masters or doctorate level degree. Rest assured, your therapist is well trained to evaluate and treat your condition.
Stress Reduction: Walking can have a calming effect on the mind. It reduces stress levels and promotes a sense of relaxation. The rhythmic nature of walking can also have meditative effects, helping to clear the mind, reduce anxiety, and increase mental alertness.
As a 75-year “young” lifelong skier, I was worried that a meniscectomy in October, plus a hamstring injury, would ruin my 2023/24 ski season. My next door neighbor (Marv Neuman) and several other “senior skiers” recommended that I do PT with Danny at Canyon Sports. Rehab of the meniscectomy progressed rapidly due to “high tech” tools (ultrasound, etc), guided strengthening, balance exercises and hard work. The hamstring tear and tendonopathy took a bit longer to eliminate pain and regain functionality. What really worked wonders for me was a technique recommended by Danny called “dry needling.” I was a bit skeptical of plunging a series of 4” needles into the midsection and pelvic ligature of my left hamstring, but I noticed a distinct improvement after the first treatment. After three needling sessions, I was a firm believer in the technique. The bottom line is that I was skiing and playing Pickleball again (albeit cautiously) by mid-December. As of today (2/13/24), I’ve graduated from the Canyon Sport PT Program, but are will continue the recommended stretching and strengthening program at home long into the future. In summary, Canyon Sports PT is a “worldclass” facility with a proven track record of successful sports injury rehabilitation. It is a clean, sanitary, well-equipped facility with an experienced,,credentialed, highly qualified, professional PT staff. The entire Canyon Sports team is courteous, kind, personable, compassionate and just plain fun. If a sports injury requires torture, serious PT and hard work, this is an ideal choice for treatment. Although I loved Danny as my PT, would gladly work with any of the Canyon Sports therapists just to be accepted as a Canyon Sports patient.
MRI
Canyon Sports Therapy is distinguished in our field for our use of biomechanical testing as part of our evaluation process. This process identifies abnormal movements which are the root cause of stresses and strains on bone and soft tissue. This may include the use of our high-speed cameras, force measuring systems, and EMG telemetry to measure and record body movement, muscle function and how gravitational forces are affecting joints and soft tissues. Our state of the art gait lab allows us a unique MRI type vision into seeing what is actually causing our athletes soft tissue stress (strain) and pain. Once identified, we can efficiently and effectively treat and eliminate the actual cause(s) of your pain.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
Our approach to acute injury treatment starts with analysis of your condition. Anyone can suffer a sports injury, for example, should you have a knee injury we would thoroughly evaluate the state of the muscles, ligaments and bones involved; we may even use one of our KT1000 knee arthrometers to evaluate the state of your ACL and PCL. Once we feel that your condition is understood we initiate immediate physical therapy to control swelling. It is vital to us that you completely understand your injury and are instructed in the exact steps needed to optimize your healing. If it is determined that your injury deserves further studies such as X-Rays, CT scans or an MRI we can quickly expedite getting you assessed, usually on the same day. Canyon Sports Therapy has over 15 years of being on the front line of orthopedic rehabilitation. We can also help direct you to an ideal MD choice for your specific condition.
Our highly trained physical therapists are movement experts, equipped in diagnosing and treating painful conditions and disorders. Many of the disorders they treat occur following surgical procedures, especially a total joint replacement. However, physical therapy is also an effective treatment method for injuries, accidents, or illnesses – essentially, anything that makes you feel weak and unable to function at your optimum physical level.

Frozen Shoulder
There are several underlying causes that could result in shoulder pain. For example, a sudden injury or trauma to the shoulders can cause them to become painful. Repetitive motions can also cause shoulder pain, as your muscles, joints, and tendons are working in overdrive. While there are multiple factors that could be causing your shoulder pain, some of the most common include sprains, strains, a torn cartilage, dislocation, frozen shoulder, tendinitis, and arthritis.

Manual Therapy
Have you recently sustained an injury? Are you recovering from a surgical procedure? Is your illness or ailment causing you aches and pains? If so, you would likely benefit from manual therapy treatments.
Sprains and strains: These injuries occur in so many instances from sports injury to bicycle injuries, but mostly during activity where an unnatural motion takes place, such as a rolled ankle or hyperextension of the knee. It is a stretching or tearing of the ligaments.
Podiatric Surgery
The impact of these surgeries should not be understated. Most surgeries incur at least some degree of pain, inflammation, mobility limitations, and swelling. To complicate matters, you likely were already experiencing pain and dysfunction prior to your operation!
