Sinusitis
Balloon Sinuplasty is a safe and effective option to relieve chronic sinusitis symptoms in children’s maxillary sinuses. Our Physicians will discuss treatment options with you that are best for your child’s chronic sinusitis.
Medical Weight Loss
Even mild sleep apnea causes high blood pressure. The condition usually worsens as we age and can lead to a heart attack or stroke later in life. That’s why prompt treatment is so important. As ENT specialists, we are skilled in an array of treatment options for snoring and sleep apnea. We often recommend weight loss and CPAP machines. Surgical interventions include septoplasty, turbinate reduction, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy or uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP).
Snoring
Many children also have problems with their tonsils and adenoids. These problems, including enlarged or infected tonsils or adenoids, can make it difficult for them to breathe normally or sleep soundly without snoring. Snoring is, in fact, one of the primary symptoms of tonsil/adenoid and obstructed airway problems. Sleep apnea, or cessation of breathing during sleep, is another problem that can arise from tonsil/adenoid conditions. Removal of the tonsils and adenoids can correct the snoring and sleep apnea.

Ear, nose and throat care is an important part of a child’s healthcare. That’s because kids are especially prone to ear, nose and throat problems that can affect health and normal development. For example, recurrent ear infections and earaches, if left untreated, can sometimes lead to eardrum damage, hearing loss and delayed speech and language development.

We diagnose hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, by understanding the symptoms of underactive hormone production and testing it in the blood. We then prescribe hormone replacement therapy.
Thyroid
There are a number of thyroid and parathyroid disorders that can affect one’s health. Thyroid disorders include thyroid nodules, euthyroid goiter, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis and thyroid cancers. Parathyroid disorders include hyperparathyroidism. Thyroid and parathyroid disorders often require surgical correction by a trained otolaryngologist–head and neck surgeon, like those here at Dalton ENT.
Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer surgery typically involves removal of the thyroid gland. Additionally, in some cases, the removal of lymph nodes is very important. After surgery, radioactive iodine is often utilized for treating microscopic disease.

At Dalton ENT in Dalton, Georgia, we have specialized training in identifying patients with sinonasal disease and can recognize the differences between patients with nasal allergy, viral upper-respiratory tract symptoms and bacterial rhinosinusitis. We know when to obtain a computed tomography (CT) scan, when to evaluate for allergies and when to proceed with surgery, though surgery is never our first option.

I explored other surgical fields such as general, cardiac and vascular surgery but was most interested in and drawn to the complex and challenging anatomy of the head and neck. Rhinoplasty
N some cases, chronic breathing problems do not respond well to ordinary nasal treatment. Your doctor may recommend nasal surgery (rhinoplasty) to improve your breathing. Your nasal blockage may be the result of swelling caused by allergies or viruses, or it could be attributed to structural abnormalities.
Otoplasty
To correct ears that lack folds, your surgeon places permanent stitches in your upper ear cartilage and ties them to create a fold and prop the ear up. Scar tissue will form later, holding the fold in place. Otoplasty (corrective surgery for your ears) should be considered on ears that stick out more than 4/5 of an inch (2 cm) from the back of the head. It can be performed at any age after the ears have reached full size, which is usually at five or six years old. Having otoplasty at a young age has two distinct benefits: a child’s cartilage is more pliable, which makes his/her ear easier to reshape; and s/he will psychologically benefit from the cosmetic improvement. However, you can have otoplasty at any age.
Cosmetic Surgery
During development, the formation of your ear is an intricate process involving the moving of skin and adjacent soft tissue to give create the different parts of your ear. If this process is interrupted, it can affect the shaping of your ear from mild folding differences to microtia (absence of the ear and possibly the ear canal). The fold of hard, raised cartilage that shapes the upper portion of the ear does not form in all people; this is called “lop-ear deformity,” and it is genetically inherited. The absence of this fold can cause the ear to flop out or stick down. Some children are born without an ear canal, and their hearing can potentially be restored with a bone-anchored hearing aid or it can be surgically opened; the outer ear can also be reshaped to look like the other ear. Those who are born without an ear or lose an ear due to injury can have cosmetic surgery to have an artificial ear surgically attached. Artificial ears are custom-formed to match your other ear. It is also possible to use rib cartilage or a biomedical implant in addition to your soft tissue to construct a new ear.
