Best Bar b Que in the area. Every time I pass through the area it's a must that we stop by. Great Food
As a former secret shopper who spent several years doing numerous shops at Voodoo BBQs around Baton Rouge... Go to Jay's. The voodoo food, after a while, well, they quite literally couldn't pay me to eat there anymore. If you want BBQ, meat, or any sort of meat-based product, go to Jay's. If you want to have a few drinks and watch sportsball, go to Voodoo. Other than the bar & bar prices, Jay's is just better. They also make the best burger & fries I've had in Baton Rouge but BBQ is the main game. Nice folks who run it. Mostly family or long time employees. There is a drive-thru with nearly full menu available but I'd suggest calling ahead if you want something like their full bbq'd turkey for holidays. Old-fashioned feeling with Marx Bros. posters decorating the wall and an old wooden candy rack with lifesavers, gum and a few chocolate bars by the door, like growing up in the 60s and 70s. DOWNSIDES: The men's bathroom is definitely also from the 60s and 70s, only I'm not sure if that's 19 or 18 in front of it. There is a small older TV that is reliably showing the LSU games. Also, the place is closed on Sundays. Knowing that might even be an upside depending on your personal views. Do not confuse this Jay's BBQ with the Jay's BBQ on government Street--I think it's different owners but the quality is *definitely* far worse. Note--Haven't been to the Gvt Street location in a couple years so maaaaaybe it's changed?
Go there usually at Lunch. Quick Service, prices a little high, good variety on menu, very good BBQ
