After 12 years of thinking this was the best practice ever, and recommending this dentist to friends and family, I realized that he intentionally billed me directly for a procedure that was covered by the procedure submitted to the insurance company. He has done that twice and also billed for an exam that he did not do. There is a definite pattern of fraud and my insurance company has ordered him to pay me back. it is not a "mistake" as they are claiming because they purposely billed me directly without billing the insurance company. This is a dishonest dentist. Do not trust him!
I never saw Dr. Mastella, however, the older dentist was surprised I had all my teeth (wisdom) and told me they needed to be extracted because I didn't need them, by the time the food gets that far back it's pulverized and I could possibly keep them clean but I didn't have any cavities. I received the "scaling" even though I went in to have a broken crown replace. On a follow-up for the broken crown I was told unless I agreed to have my wisdom teeth pulled he would not perform any other work. Needless to say I left and I still have all my teeth! Find another dentist, quick before you pay for needless extractions. You should have your teeth pulled if they are rotten, abscessed, etc. not just because you are told they might give you problems in the future.
First of all, I waited more than 45 minutes to see the dentist. I had Xrays done which he said looked fine, but then he informed me that I had two cavities in bottom wisdom teeth which would need to be filled. I was shocked because I've never had a cavity in my life (and i'm in my 30's). I was a little suspicious because I had always thought that if you had a cavity, you'd be able to see it on the xray (isn't that why you take them?), but Dr. Rodriguez assured me that this simply meant we had caught the cavity in its early stage. So I made my follow-up appointment to have my cavity filled. Again, I got to my appointment on time and had to wait about 30minutes this time. Then he proceeded to numb me up, and at the end of my procedure, he hands me a mirror to look at his handiwork, and he's put a filling in a completely different tooth! When I told him that it was my wisdom tooth that he said had a problem last time, he simply replied, "oh yes, but this tooth looked worse." It's all crap! I don't believe any of my teeth had cavities. I would never go back there again! Don't believe them if they tell you that you need any work done on your teeth.
Dr. Mastella is very caring and sensitive. He does not recommend unnessary dental procedures. Wonderful general matenance practice with personal dental care. Great sense of humor, which helps patients to relax prior to needed dental work.
