“Before my first visit to Dr. Davidson, I knew very little about his treatments. The only thing my referring physician said was that it was a very gentle and, essentially, painless therapy. Have had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis most of my life, this sounded refreshing. Other past therapy treatment, including massage therapy, were at times excruciating and would leave me feeling “wired” on my trips back home. Although some of the troubled spots were looser, the rest of my body would feel “out of whack.”
Primary Care
My name is Gene Pentkowski. I am 82 years and still kicking. I have fallen off a number of roofs, ruined my back playing football, had a horse sit in my lap. The past several years suffered low back pain, Pain in my left knee, and pain and swell in my right heel. My Primary Care M.D. Prescribed pain pills for the back pain, a different one for the left knee, and still another for the right heel. I've been poked & prodded X-rayed and run through Cat Scans and the result was diagnosed with C.O.P.D.

The effects of cranial restrictions are too varied and far reaching to list exhaustively, but they range from migraine and other headaches, eye pain, visual problems, TMJ pain and “popping jaw”, facial neuralgia, ear infections, tinnitus, deafness, dizziness, tics and facial paralysis, spinal curvatures and back pain, to depression and other emotional and psychological disturbances.

Infectious Diseases
The causes of restrictions in the cranial mechanism are numerous. Chief among them would be trauma: falls, blows, fractures, concussions, whiplash injuries, etc. Others include dental extractions and dental surgery, severe infectious diseases, particularly meningitis and encephalitis, chronic drug use and stress. An especially potent cause of trouble is birth trauma, e.g. from malpresentation, narrow maternal pelvis, forceps delivery or vacuum extraction, prolonged labor with excessive molding of the skull or precipitous labor. The fetal skull is part bone and part membrane and cartilage. This renders it vulnerable to distortion during the birth process and this, uncorrected, may persist into adult life with adverse consequences for the normal growth and development.

When I came to Dr. Davidson I had a prolapsed uterus and back pain. On the first visit, Dr. Davidson was able to strength the ligiments to the uterus. It is completely back in alignment. My ob-gyn thought it would be necessary to do a hysterectomy, which I don't need now. I was pleased beyond words. I still have some back pain. He is working on that and it is getting better. I am so happy that I am a patient of Dr. Davidson. Thank you so much.

Neurology
During osteopathic medical training, students are taught to examine and prescribe treatments along the guidelines of the specialty they are studying. These guidelines reflect the way specialists actually practice at the time — all except in osteopathic theory and treatment, that is. For example, in the study of neurology, a student is taught a neurological exam similar to the way a neurologist might perform one as he was thinking through a case.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

This exceptional article, appearing in the student’s corner and well-written by Kelly Miller, shows great thought and appreciation for the relevant anatomy involving osteopathic Carpal Tunnel Syndrome treatment. Ms Kelly rightly notes that releasing tension of the flexor retinaculum enlarges the carpal tunnel and helps remove pressure (compression neuropathy) of the Median Nerve. The home exercises reviewed here and others devleoped by Ben Sucher, D.O. offer great relief to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome sufferers.

In infants and children, cranial restrictions can be responsible for complaints such as squints, repeated ear infections, digestive and respiratory difficulties, convulsions, clumsiness and inco-ordination as well as emotional or behavioral problems, and learning disabilities. Research work amongst grade school children carried out at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine has shown clear correlation between the number and severity of cranial restrictions and the occurrence of dyslexia, learning disabilities, disturbed behavior, hyperactivity and autism.

One example: My son is a physician in Las Vegas. He developed a painful very disabling low back pain and an MRI indicated to a competent orthopedic surgeon that he would need extensive back surgery with fusion of several lumbar vertebrae. With all the trouble I had with my arm and shoulder with that incredibly incapacitating pinched nerve, I never thought I'd be able to work comfortably (and yes, hour upon hour, as is my want!) You already know I sought and received treatment from the “best” doctors in Arizona, but none of them ultimately cured the problem...until now!
Ankle Surgery
I wanted you to know that the pain in my knees has decreased to the point where I haven't taken any arthrotec for a week now. Ibuprofen (1200 mg/day) is enough. And I've been doing things like sitting cross-legged, and the "pigeon" pose in yoga, that I haven't been able to do in years, completely without pain (if I'm careful.) I can also feel the ground sloping or rising under my left foot (extremely useful on snowy, icy sidewalks) which I haven't been able to do since reconstructive ankle surgery 25 years ago. All of which I would have put in the "astronomically improbable" category just a month ago. It's like turning back the clock on my body. (I caught a bit of an "Extreme Makeover" show on TV, the one where they do punitive training regimes and drastic cosmetic surgery before they pile on the makeup and hairdos and new clothes - and it struck me how superficial all that was compared with the transformation I am so happily experiencing.)

A rural physician, who used to do small numbers of several procedures a year, said he abandoned those services as his malpractice premiums sky rocketed. For example, he used to do three vasectomies a year. Since his vasectomy fee was $200, he grossed $600 a year doing vasectomies. When his vasectomy malpractice premium went to $1200, he couldn’t afford to do vasectomies. He told the legislators that he made an extra $600 not doing vasectomies. And so, rural Arizona, already badly lacking health care facilities, loses physician services as well.

But, all was not well with the surgimand industry. As often happens in the plant world, new parasites appear. For the surgimand, it was a new fungus that pitted the skin and poisoned the fruit soon after infection. Although still rare, the fungus spread throughout the industry. The crop, still hardy, suffered only minor losses. Yet, as careful as the growers were, some bad fruit got through. Since, after fungal infection, it took several weeks for the pitting to show up, some of the fruit were infected at packing. No one could tell by looking at the fruit, which plants the fungus had infected. No reliable test had yet been developed to check for fungal infestation.
