There are two types, non-proliferative and proliferative, depending whether the diabetic retinopathy causes the proliferation (i.e. formation) of new, abnormal blood vessels.

Dr. Carolyn Repke attended Jefferson Medical College, where she graduated with honors was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. After serving her internship at the Medical Center of Delaware, she completed her residency in Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. This was followed by an additional year of specialty training in Ophthalmic Plastic, Cosmetic, and Reconstructive Surgery, also at Wills Eye Hospital.
