Dental Examination
It is our desire to provide each patient with the highest quality dental care through our enthusiastic commitment to teamwork through comfortable patient relationships. Your first visit is important to us. We try to allow extra time to get to know you and your mouth by taking all necessary x-rays along with an extensive oral exam. If possible, we attempt to schedule your cleaning on that same day with our hygiene staff.
X-rays
Radiation from dental x-rays is low. Current guidelines say it is more risky for a pregnant woman to postpone necessary dental treatment than to have an x-ray. This is because dental disease not treated during pregnancy can lead to problems for you and your baby.
Oral Cancer Screening
Your dentist checks for cancer every time you visit. Cancers that are found early can be easier to treat-so these types of cancer screenings are one more reason to see your dentist regularly.

Teeth Cleaning
Even if you brush twice a day, there are places your toothbrush bristles can’t reach. Flossing removes plaque and food particles from between teeth and under the gumline. A simple routine of daily teeth cleaning, good eating habits and regular dental visits can help prevent tooth decay (cavities) and gum disease.
Fluoride Treatment
Two more important ways a dentist can prevent cavities include fluoride treatments and dental sealants, a coating that protects the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Your dentist will let you know if these treatments are right for your child.

Our teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria, called plaque (sounds like PLAK). When we eat or drink anything that contains sugar-such as cookies, candy, soda, juice, or sports drinks-bacteria turn the sugar into acids that can attack tooth enamel. Over time, these attacks may cause tooth decay, or cavities. The good news is that there is a way to protect teeth and prevent decay: dental sealants.

Your teeth are meant to last a lifetime. Years ago, diseased or injured teeth often were pulled. Endodontics (end-o-DON-tics) is the branch of dentistry that deals with treating diseases or injuries to the dental pulp. An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in root canal and other endodontic treatments.

Periodontal Surgery
If the pockets do not heal enough after scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery may be needed. Surgery allows the dentist to remove tartar and plaque from hard-to-reach areas. Then the gums are stitched into place to hug the teeth tightly. Surgery can reduce pocket depth and make it easier to keep teeth clean.
Deep Cleaning
Even with these measures, some patients develop more severe periodontal disease. The first step in treating the disease usually involves a special deep cleaning called “scaling and root planing.” In this treatment, the dentist removes plaque and tartar down to the bottom of each periodontal pocket. This treatment may be done over several visits, depending on your needs.

Types of orthodontic treatment There are different types of orthodontic treatment that can be used to correct a bad bite. Your bite is a complex system. Your teeth, jaws, gums, and facial muscles work together to help you chew, speak, and smile. To get your bite in line, a few different steps may be needed. Your dentist or orthodontist will discuss which type of treatment is best for you. Braces Braces move teeth by applying pressure. The braces usually consist of small brackets cemented to your teeth, connected by a wire or rubber bands. The wire is regularly tightened by the dentist or orthodontist to gradually shift your teeth and jaw. The brackets may be metal or tooth colored. Sometimes brackets are placed on the backs of your teeth to make them less visible. Aligners Aligners are made of clear plastic or acrylic material and are worn over your teeth to straighten them. Each set of custom-made aligners is worn for a few weeks or maybe a month. Then you get a new set for the next stage of your treatment. This way, your teeth are gradually moved into the correct position according to your treatment plan. Aligners are removable and need to be taken out before you eat, brush, and floss. Because they are removable, you must be sure to follow your dentist’s instructions on how long to wear them each day. Surgical correction Some patients may have an upper or lower jaw that sticks out and causes their bite to be uneven. In some cases, surgery may be needed to improve the function and appearance of their bites.
