You will go home with a wrap on your wrist. You will need to wear this for 5 days. You may remove the dressings after 5 days and leave the incision open to air. Please report any drainage, redness, fever over 101, or excessive swelling to the nurse.

Jamie is a Louisiana State Licensed X-ray Technologist. Born and raised on the West Bank, Jamie graduated with honors from L.W. Higgins High School in Marrero, Louisiana. He has an Associate of Science Degree from Delgado Community College. His clinical education was obtained at Tulane Medical Center. Jamie has been employed by Westside Orthopaedic Clinic for nearly 25 years and continues to provide excellent patient care in the field of radiology.

Sheri graduated from the Charity Hospital School of Surgical Technology in 1987. Her first job was in orthopedics, and it was then she realized what she truly wanted to do. Sheri now has nearly 30 years of experience as an orthopedic surgical technician, and has worked at Westside Orthopaedic Clinic for the past 11 years. Sheri assists Dr. Katz with surgery. When not in the operating room, she works in the clinic assisting with patient care by applying casts, changing dressings, removing sutures and answering phone calls.

Your lumbar fusion is a big operation whether it is done open or by the MIS (minimally invasive surgery) approach. After surgery, you will be admitted to the hospital for anywhere between 1-3 days, depending on the specific nature of your recovery.

Dr. Ralph Katz is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who has been practicing at Westside Orthopaedic Clinic for 26 years. He performs minimally invasive procedures among other surgeries with consistently excellent outcomes. For the patient who has failed conservative treatment (e.g. medication, physical therapy, injections), a minimally invasive procedure such as a micro-discetomy could be the treatment that relieves your pain and can be done in an outpatient setting. The procedure typically takes about an hour. Most patients can return to normal activities within four to six weeks. Additionally, Dr. Katz performs other spinal procedures such as; cervical and lumbar fusions, utilizing small incisions techniques with minimally invasive systems when needed. He is one of a few local surgeons who perform both cervical and lumbar disc replacements.
