Medical Weight Loss
Liposuction is a popular surgical procedure to remove unwanted fat from targeted areas of the body that have not responded to diet and exercise. While liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss, it can sculpt and contour the body to reduce pockets of stubborn fat. It is often used on the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, upper arms, knees, calves, neck, and under the chin.

MRI
While breast implant ruptures are not a frequent occurrence, both saline and silicone implants can rupture. The FDA recommends that women with silicone implants have an MRI every two years to determine if a rupture has occurred. This is because silicone implant ruptures may not be readily detected. Saline, on the other hand, simply deflates if a rupture occurs, so it is easily detected.
Chemotherapy
The timing of your surgery is an important consideration. You have the option of having your breast reconstruction at the same time as your mastectomy or waiting until after you have healed. In some cases, the surgery must be postponed for radiation or chemotherapy after the mastectomy. If you have already completed one of these therapies or are not scheduled to have them, you can choose to have the reconstruction at the same time as your mastectomy. Most women in this situation prefer immediate reconstruction so they can heal from both surgeries at the same time and not have to undergo another surgical procedure months or years down the road. Also, many women do not want to live without breasts for any longer than necessary. Some women feel they can heal emotionally as well as physically from their breast cancer more completely when they have their reconstruction completed at the time of mastectomy.

Roy Powell Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S. has been double-board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery for more than 25 years. He graduated from medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, followed by an internship and residency in General Surgery at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Dr. Powell then completed a Microvascular Surgery/Lab Fellowship at Duke University, as well as a Plastic Surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia. He is a former Chief of Staff at Charter Northside Hospital and is a former Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. At the Mercer University School of Medicine, Dr. Powell has served as a Clinical Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Division of Plastic Surgery.
Ear Surgery
Ear surgery can be performed under sedation or general anesthetic. Depending on the extent of your surgery, you may be required to spend a night in the hospital, or you might be allowed to go home the same day with instructions for after-care.

Brow Lift
In the evaluation of your eyes, our surgeons will evaluate your forehead and eyebrow position to determine what is necessary for optimal results. Laser Resurfacing
The need to perform a second blepharoplasty is uncommon; however, as the aging process continues, excess skin may eventually recur. This can usually be addressed under local anesthesia by removing a “pinch” of skin, applying a chemical peel, or laser resurfacing.

Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion helps to smooth the skin’s top layers by surgical scraping or sanding. During the procedure, the outermost layer of skin is removed with a rough wire brush, or a burr containing diamond particles, attached to a motorized handle. The skin is scraped to the safest level that will make the scar or wrinkle less visible.
Bariatric Surgery

Chemical Peels
Chemical peels vary depending on the type of solution used. All of the solutions dissolve the top layer of skin by a chemical reaction. Phenol, which is one of the oldest solutions used, is very effective in removing moderately deep wrinkles. TCA, or Trichloroacidic acid, is a weaker acid, which is good for removing finer wrinkles. Its strength can be adjusted by changing its concentration. Fruit acids or hydroxy acids, such as Glycolic and lactic acid are generally weaker acids derived from the naturally available fruit acids. Hydroxy peels when done in a very light fashion are called micro-peels.
