Dental Sealants
Sealants are used to fill narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In some cases, the tooth structure has fine grooves or pits which accumulate plaque, not because the person doesn't brush, but because they're too narrow to allow even one bristle into them. The grooves can develop into cavities over time, so the dentist brushes on a coating that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all of the plaque and keep the teeth healthy. Sealants can be placed on both primary and adult virgin teeth.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth. Bonding can be done to repair tooth-damage (from either decay or trauma), to alter the alignment of the tooth, close gaps between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes.
Veneers
VENEERS: A veneer is a ceramic restoration placed on your tooth that cannot stain. They are typically used to either improve the aesthetics of a tooth or to protect a damaged surface. We reccomend prepped porcelain veneers so that the cosmetic result is ideal and looks realistic.
Crowns
A: White fillings cannot be used in every situation, and if a tooth is very badly broken, a crown may be necessary. White fillings are always used on anterior tooth for cosmetic reasons and can be used in the posterior region, however, may not last as long as silver fillings. Some insurance companies do not cover white fillings and they can potentially need replacement due to recurrent decay or fracture of the material. Silver fillings are very strong and often last a lifetime. Our office feels that silver is an ideal posterior restoration that may never need replacement and is less costly. In radiographic images, decay is more easily detected with silver fillings because they are radiopaque, while white fillings are radiolucent.

Dental Bonding
BONDING: Dental bonding is a procedure in a which a resin material is adhered (bonded) to a tooth in order to repair fractures, close gaps, and change the color, shape, or size of a tooth. The resin's color is made to blend with the natural color of your surrounding teeth.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is made necessary when a cavity reaches all the way to the pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect problems early) Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal therapy, also. Once this occurs the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess). By this time the pulp is infected and must be treated. It can even weaken the entire immune system. This is dangerous, not to mention very painful. Symptoms that the pulp has become infected may include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, pain, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Sometimes, however, no symptoms are apparent and the person is unaware of any problem until a checkup.

There are different types of dentures, but they share a common function. They replace teeth that have become loose or been lost due to bone loss. When bone loss around the roots of teeth is great enough to loosen them or let them fall out, it's time for dentures. Relax. No one enjoys losing their natural teeth, but you can still eat and talk regularly.

Dental Implants
A dental implant is an option to replace a missing tooth. In this procedure, a small titanium shaft is surgically implanted into the bone and allowed to set. The bone grows around it forming a tight connection, which additionally slows or stops the bone loss that occurs when the root of a natural tooth is missing. Once the implant is firmly set in the mouth, the dentist then works to attach the replacement tooth onto the top of the shaft. This permanent solution has the advantages over bridge work that it does not stress the surrounding teeth for support, and, should the tooth wear out, another can simply be replaced on the shaft.

WHITENING: This is the procedure of making teeth whiter, and therefore more attractive. Professional whitening can be accomplished in approximately one hour at our office or at your home using custom trays and whitening solution one hour per day for up to two weeks. Results of both techniques are equal, however, we typically reccomend home whitening because it is more cost effective, custom trays from home whitening are reusable in the future, and one has the ability to start/stop the procedure as needed if sensitivity exists.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Is a third generation dentist that has been in practice since 1988. She received both her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Dental Hygiene prior to attending the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. After graduating from the University of Maryland Dental School, she worked as a part time clinical instructor in the Department of Pediatrics and in private practice. She now devotes her time exclusively to general and cosmetic dentistry.
