Dr. Daniel Bustos, the son of a cardiothoracic surgeon, grew up in Houston Texas. He chose Ophthalmology as his specialty because it married his two passions: cutting-edge technology and the desire to make a decisive, immediate difference in the lives of his patients. “There’s no other feeling quite like being able to save someone’s vision. To see the amazement on my patients’ faces when they can’t see the hand in front of their face before surgery and see 20/20 the next morning is indescribable. For all the difficulties I’ve faced becoming a doctor and the daily obstacles practicing medicine in today’s healthcare environment, the ability to help change the course of someone’s life for the better makes it all worth it.” Because of his strong commitment to improving his patient’s lives, Dr. Bustos devotes a significant amount of his communicating with his patients face to face, educating them, and helping them to see how they can partner with him to improve their vision. “It is vitally important to me that my patients understand, at least on a basic level, what is happening with their eyes so they can make the best decision about their eyes and vision. If that means spending an extra fifteen minutes with a patient to explain a concept in a few different ways until it becomes clear to the them, then it’s well worth it. If I can succeed at that, then I have a patient who is engaged, will ask questions, and become a true participant making decisions about their own health care.” It is in this one-one-one interaction with each of his patients that Dr. Bustos practices what he learned from his father: everyone gets treated with respect and dignity, with a personal, compassionate emphasis. Dr. Bustos is an experienced, refractive cataract surgeon who has a reputation for patients with excellent surgical outcomes who feel like they have been taken care of personally in the process.
