If you have a generic question and are looking for a quick answer, do not call this number. Their prompts are not well thought out. To begin with they ask you for an account number and or social security number. If you don't have an account, but have a generic question, e.g., do you redeem Series EE bonds, forget it. 12 prompts later I still couldn't get to an operator. I decided to take my business elsewhere where customer service is at least a thought.
